Summary

Good book for an airplane。 Good prose, good placing, good fight scenes。 One great wizard battle。 I like it while I'm reading it。 Looking back, I'm little vexed。 I don't know why people are besotted with the POV character。 I don't know why she's loyal to the library。 I don't know why she thinks the library is a force for good。 The library might be a force for good。 But if by their works you know them, it does not seem to be。 I hope there's a worthy payoff。 Good book for an airplane。 Good prose, good placing, good fight scenes。 One great wizard battle。 I like it while I'm reading it。 Looking back, I'm little vexed。 I don't know why people are besotted with the POV character。 I don't know why she's loyal to the library。 I don't know why she thinks the library is a force for good。 The library might be a force for good。 But if by their works you know them, it does not seem to be。 I hope there's a worthy payoff。 。。。more

I am really enjoying this series。 Mystery combined with fantasy and an underlying love of books。

I think this book was much more action-oriented than the second in the series, for which I was grateful。 The conflict with Alberich reached a head and ultimately the Library won out, with some excellent choice words by Irene。 I felt that the romance between Irene and Vale was slightly fabricated, and that the chemistry wasn't quite there as much as it should be building up between Irene and Kai in my opinion。 I think this book was much more action-oriented than the second in the series, for which I was grateful。 The conflict with Alberich reached a head and ultimately the Library won out, with some excellent choice words by Irene。 I felt that the romance between Irene and Vale was slightly fabricated, and that the chemistry wasn't quite there as much as it should be building up between Irene and Kai in my opinion。 。。。more

I feel this one is a stronger predecessor from the previous two books and you can tell in her writing and world building。 This was vastly improved。She still needs to work on not over describing the world and some logic jumps fall flat。 Still a strong 4 though

“The Burning Page” continues the adventures of Irene and her friends in Cogman’s fascinating alternate realities。 The world building is very effective and this third book has some new characters and a brilliant finale。 There are references to some previous adventures in the first two books and the first section of the novel is, while enjoyable, rather episodic。 In my opinion “The Burning Page” isn’t quite up to its predecessors but those who enjoyed those will certainly like this one。

This was my favourite in the series so far。 There was less recapping on what had happened in the previous instalments and there was more humour and action, in my opinion。 I’m looking forward to reading the next one。

As a Librarian, Irene has rules to follow。 Even after surviving ruthless attacks and deadly foes, Irene is still on probation。 She is watched closely and any deviation from her mission will not look good。 When her current mission falls foul of sabotage and her escape route literally goes up in flames, leaving her mission to find an alternative route to the Library seems like a sensible action to take。 It is only then that she and Kai discover that Gates to the Library are malfunctioning across a As a Librarian, Irene has rules to follow。 Even after surviving ruthless attacks and deadly foes, Irene is still on probation。 She is watched closely and any deviation from her mission will not look good。 When her current mission falls foul of sabotage and her escape route literally goes up in flames, leaving her mission to find an alternative route to the Library seems like a sensible action to take。 It is only then that she and Kai discover that Gates to the Library are malfunctioning across all worlds。 Irene discovers that her archenemy/ex-Librarian Alberich is the culprit。 She suspects that damaged Gates is only the beginning and that Alberich has designs on destroying the Library completely。After Irene shares her concerns with her superiors, she and Kai are sent to St Petersburg to combat Alberich's attacks there。 Tasked with foiling assassination attempts, they must also face down Alberich as he confronts Irene's attempts to thwart his plans。 Kai and Irene are also desperately searching for help for their friend Vale who is gravely ill after entering a high chaos world to save Kai。 When a solution emerges that may save the Library, though incredibly dangerous and life-threatening, can Irene use it to her advantage to protect the Library and save herself in the process?🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I absolutely love this series。 Each new book adds multiple new layers to world-building and character development and they are a joy to read。 In this instalment we see Irene facing off against both her and the Library's deadliest foe。 Alberich is a brilliant character as you can tell he has a backstory that conflicts with what Irene has been told about him。 He also isn’t just the quintessential bad guy, he has charm, intrigue and a mysterious connection to Irene's past that we eagerly want to know about。 I liked how Irene and Kai's friendship/potential love interest developed in this book and it's palpable how they feel for one another。 High stakes, fast-paced action and an emotional roller-coaster all rolled into one story。 Can't wait to read the next one。 。。。more

On to book 3 - I've been home sick, so I've had more time to read than usual。 This series caught my interest, so I'm working my way through it。 This time there are problems with the Library itself and our big baddie from the first book has returned。 They start off with Irene's job going wrong, and Kai having to Dragon them out of there。 And then being attacked in their 'base' world, and then finding Vale unconscious (I did find it weird that after they were attacked by venomous spiders, they qui On to book 3 - I've been home sick, so I've had more time to read than usual。 This series caught my interest, so I'm working my way through it。 This time there are problems with the Library itself and our big baddie from the first book has returned。 They start off with Irene's job going wrong, and Kai having to Dragon them out of there。 And then being attacked in their 'base' world, and then finding Vale unconscious (I did find it weird that after they were attacked by venomous spiders, they quickly decided that Vale's issue wasn't a spider bite)。 I could take or leave the werewolf part of the story and running through the underground。 It was more talk than action, which was amusing, but I'm not sure it added much to the story。 And I thought it was fun that Zayanna was back, even if they weren't sure if she was friend or foe。 I hoped Irene might have another woman to spend some time with, but alas, she faded into the background of the book for long portions of the story。 There was a short attempt at moving some romance into the story, rather than just references that seem to be setting something up down the road。 I'm kind of okay if nothing develops with this group and they are all just friends。 But we'll see where it goes。 The end of the story again lost me in its description of the library she's in (much like the prison in the last book) and how the magic of the library does and does not work seems pretty sketchy。 And the whole ending pretty much came down to the bad guy making stupid decisions for no good reason。 (view spoiler)[ though I must say that was I right there with Irene in being upset that SHE BURNED ALL THOSE BOOKS!!! How could you, Irene? I get that she was trying to save the Library and herself, but that kind of defeats the purpose of her job。 It breaks the links to the other worlds and puts Alberich back quite a ways in his quest, but couldn't she have stolen a couple of them at least? And that's a little crazy that his whole quest was disrupted by fire - no safety protocols when you are doing dark magic stuff I guess。 Who has time to install sprinklers? (hide spoiler)] But again, I was more entertained by it than anything else, so I put in my request at the library for the next three books。。。 。。。more

This is already a different read than the first two - you have established characters, known worlds, and our heroine is a lot more tried-and-tested than she was before。Kai got on my nerves a bit。 Irene is still a bad ass mofo。 And our Big Bad was very compelling to read - isn't it always scarier when they are really smart bad guys? He's her Moriarty。 This is already a different read than the first two - you have established characters, known worlds, and our heroine is a lot more tried-and-tested than she was before。Kai got on my nerves a bit。 Irene is still a bad ass mofo。 And our Big Bad was very compelling to read - isn't it always scarier when they are really smart bad guys? Book 3 of this wonderful series。 First of all, it's a good idea to read books 1 & 2 before this one, since the events are chronological。 Irene, Kai, and Vale are dealing with the after-effects of what happened in Venice (book 2)。 Then, wouldn't you know it but Alberich is back and threatening to destroy the Library。 We also learn about how exactly this destruction is being planned out。 This leads to a confrontation between Irene and Alberich。 Book 3 of this wonderful series。 First of all, it's a good idea to read books 1 & 2 before this one, since the events are chronological。 Irene, Kai, and Vale are dealing with the after-effects of what happened in Venice (book 2)。 Then, wouldn't you know it but Alberich is back and threatening to destroy the Library。 We also learn about how exactly this destruction is being planned out。 This leads to a confrontation between Irene and Alberich。 。。。more

Haven't read anything in the last 3 weeks and finally decided to review the ones that I already finished earlier this year but was too lazy to review。 This book is one of them。Book 3 of the Librarian something something series, this picks up right after the previous one and doles out some heavy adventure, action and fun。 Don't be fooled by my apparent laziness to go back and remember the name of the series and don't take it as a sign to skip this book。 This one's brilliant。 The dynamic duo Irene Haven't read anything in the last 3 weeks and finally decided to review the ones that I already finished earlier this year but was too lazy to review。 This book is one of them。Book 3 of the Librarian something something series, this picks up right after the previous one and doles out some heavy adventure, action and fun。 Don't be fooled by my apparent laziness to go back and remember the name of the series and don't take it as a sign to skip this book。 This one's brilliant。 The dynamic duo Irene and Kai are off to different worlds again in search of books that maintain the balance between order and chaos。 Things get dicey from the get go when the door to the library in space and time malfunctions and our intrepid heroes find themselves fighting for their lives。 Once again。 The big bad librarian turned rogue finally turns his designs against the library and Irene must have her wits with her to match him skill to skill。 We are left with more questions than answers but nevertheless this was as fun as I could possibly imagine。 On to the next one then。 。。。more

Probably closer to 3。5 ⭐Good to see Kai in action again, but definitely felt like there were a lot of unanswered questions again or explanations that were very complex that I didn't bother trying to understand it。 Probably closer to 3。5 ⭐Good to see Kai in action again, but definitely felt like there were a lot of unanswered questions again or explanations that were very complex that I didn't bother trying to understand it。 。。。more

This has been my least favorite of the bunch so far。 I guess I just don't feel like anything happened, even though there were a couple of "big reveals" at the end of this book。 I still like the characters, and I will probably continue with this series as it's easy to follow along with and the narrator is excellent。 I'd still recommend these to people looking for some fantasy detective books。 This has been my least favorite of the bunch so far。 I guess I just don't feel like anything happened, even though there were a couple of "big reveals" at the end of this book。 I still like the characters, and I will probably continue with this series as it's easy to follow along with and the narrator is excellent。 I'd still recommend these to people looking for some fantasy detective books。 。。。more

A bit longer winded than the last volumes。 An unresolved aftermath click baiting me to look out for the next volume。 But altogether an entertaining read

I didn't see some personal developments coming, but after the fact, it made sense。 Irene continues to amaze me。 She keeps calm on the surface, even when she's freaking out。 Kai is learning how to handle himself as a member of the library, but the dragon sides of his personality clash with it at times。 I love seeing him figure out his path。 And Vale, our favorite detective, remains awesome。 I love that these characters all have flaws, trying to do what's right, even if it's not what they want。 I didn't see some personal developments coming, but after the fact, it made sense。 Irene continues to amaze me。 She keeps calm on the surface, even when she's freaking out。 Kai is learning how to handle himself as a member of the library, but the dragon sides of his personality clash with it at times。 I love seeing him figure out his path。 And Vale, our favorite detective, remains awesome。 I love that these characters all have flaws, trying to do what's right, even if it's not what they want。 。。。more

Multiple universes。 Librarians。 Dragons。 Fae。 A Sherlock Holmes variant。 What more could you ask for? What? You want more? Ok。 Adventure。 Flying sleighs instead of airplanes。 A betrayal。 An attempt to destroy the Library。 But no romance, if that's what you were looking for。 Which, tbh, I'm ok with! Another fun adventure with Irene, Kai, and Vale。 Plus I adore Kristin Atherton's narration。 It's superb。 I'm ready for the next adventure now!  Multiple universes。 Librarians。 Dragons。 Fae。 A Sherlock Holmes variant。 What more could you ask for? really loved this one, I think with every book the world just opens up more and more with this one, you learn more about the BBEG and about both the Fae and the Dragons and how the societies work。 You also learn a bit more about the library and how the librarians themselves feel。 I just really enjoy this world and it feels like such a wildly amazing concept that doesn't necessarily feel unique because the whole book is a giant love letter and exploration of worldbuilding and literary tropes。 Aga really loved this one, I think with every book the world just opens up more and more with this one, you learn more about the BBEG and about both the Fae and the Dragons and how the societies work。 You also learn a bit more about the library and how the librarians themselves feel。 I just really enjoy this world and it feels like such a wildly amazing concept that doesn't necessarily feel unique because the whole book is a giant love letter and exploration of worldbuilding and literary tropes。 Again I do feel like this series is a marmite series - either you love it or you don't and I don't think that if you didn't like the first book, regardless of how much I praise these books, you will enjoy the rest of the series or that it "gets better" because its just (to me) a steady level of enjoyable。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 First I thought this book kind of a bore but well。。 The ending changed my mind。 It is kind of funny how little you can predict based on the synopsis or setting of a book in this series。First of all you cannot really guess who the antagonist will be。 Obviously Alberich is the main antagonist of the series, but he keeps coming and going and sometimes dissapears。 Which is good because it helps to keep the suspense。 Then there is lady Guantes who was not present in this particular book but who will First I thought this book kind of a bore but well。。 The ending changed my mind。 It is kind of funny how little you can predict based on the synopsis or setting of a book in this series。First of all you cannot really guess who the antagonist will be。 Obviously Alberich is the main antagonist of the series, but he keeps coming and going and sometimes dissapears。 Which is good because it helps to keep the suspense。 Then there is lady Guantes who was not present in this particular book but who will no doubt make a comeback。 And sometimes there are minor book-specific villains。 You never know。 The locations also twist wildly。 Sometimes Irene is stuck in her London with Kai and Vale, sometimes she visits the library and the story concerns more the library as an institution and sometimes she hops from world to world meeting lots of new people。 So there have been no similar books in the series so far, and I'm nearly halfway of book four。 The stories also give nice glimpses to history and geography as the events vary from masquerades in Venice to mob wars in America。 Sometimes the world are modern, even steampumk-ish and sometimes very traditional but with vampires and magic。 And I cannot help but love both faeries and dragons。 Dragons are obviously my favorites - even if some of them are rather dull with their obsession with order - but I cannot help but adore faeries with their stories and narratives。 I love me some meta story where the characters know they are in a story and behave intentionally to advance the plot。。 so juicy, so intriguing。 It always takes me by surprise how fast the events can evolve in this series。 I mean I was not emotionally ready to face Alberich when there was like 20 percent of book three left but here we went - something I was prepared to face in like book 5 or 6? Sometimes the pace seems weird and the main story concerning the library advances too fast - I would have loved me some more of those book heists and romance - but on the other hand there are quite enough breaks from the (serious) action even for my taste。 So yeah。 This series just keeps on giving and evolving and I'm thoroughly hooked。 。。。more
